Advocacy and Communications Officer

Location: Brixton, London

Salary expectation: £30,000

This is a full-time role

Burmese Rohingya Organisation UK (BROUK)

 

Full Time 35 hours per week.

 

Basic purpose of job

Working with the President of BROUK to implement the advocacy, communications, administration and fundraising work of Burmese Rohingya Organisation UK.

Tasks

  • To manage BROUK communications including website, email list, and social media, and drafting media releases and social media posts.
  • To ensure the smooth running of BROUK administrative systems.
  • To assist the President of BROUK in the preparation of fundraising proposals and reports to donors and building a supporter base of individual donors.

 

Specific skills/experience required

Essential

  • Good computer literacy
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Good English language skills, oral and written
  • Proactive and self-motivated with drive and initiative
  • A good knowledge of the current political situation in Burma
  • Must be in sympathy with the aims and objectives of Burmese Rohingya Organisation UK

 

Desirable

  • Experience drafting media releases, supporter emails and social media posts
  • Experience editing websites
  • Experience in the preparation of fundraising proposals and reports

 

This role occasionally requires working outside of normal office hours, sometimes at very short notice, with time off in lieu given.

 

BROUK offers flexible working options, including mixed working at office and home, accommodating family/personal responsibilities, and flexible working hours.

 

This role is based in Brixton, London.

This role provides the opportunity to gain experience and understanding of all aspects of the running of a small advocacy organisation, the implementation of effective international advocacy, working with media, NGOs, governments and donors, and the workings of the international system and international justice mechanisms.

Training, support, advice and mentoring will be available from BROUK’s donors and partners.
